I loved every moment of it and liked being part of the World. Félicitations Allemagne, and I won’t cry for you, Argentina. You’ll be back. Can’t wait for 2018…
The world cup (France v Brazil) as portrayed by calissons…
As you are an ‘Honourary European’ don’t forget the European Cup in two years time but much more importantly the Rugby World Cup is next year and is being hosted here in the UK. In some parts of France rugby is MUCH more important than football. We were staying in south west France during a recent European Cup and used to walk to a bar in the square for a digestif after supper and to watch the football on their TV; one evening we walked through a deserted village and the only other people in the square were another English couple. I went into the bar to get the drinks as there was no sign of a waiter and it was heaving in there with everyone watching Perpignan play Narbonne at rugby. Proper priority in my view!
Thanks for this comment and information. I had no idea that rugby could possibly be more popular than le foot. I would love to go to a match sometime. I think of you Brits and your Common Wealth friends as the rugby fiends, not the frogs. 🙂
Very true, but in southern France and SW France in particular they’re fanatical rugby fans. Some say it goes back to the time we owned the area which is, of course, complete tosh but a nice story none the less.
I live in Bath and am a season ticket holder at Bath Rugby, this season we are drawn against both Montpellier and Toulouse in the European Champions Cup group stage. I’m going to find another trip to Montpellier hard to resist. I guess your local big team is Paris St Germain, you should try and see a match before you go, it’s very different.
I’m a sucker for “world” competitions, especially ones where the USA doesn’t dominate. I enjoyed cheering for the Latin American countries and the Africans. Nice to see them have their moments in the sun.
Augh! I love calissons! This is really sweet. :o)
The French are so very clever with their window displays, non? Sweet is the perfect word to describe it. 🙂

I’m a scrooge when it comes to sports. Just glad it’s over! 😉

Love your enthusiasm. May it be contagious! 🙂
I’m really trying to keep my chin up. I have less than 50 days left in my “beloved” France. Then what will I do??
😦
